Giant Grill Gauge + Combustion Engine

Close the loop with live fire wireless temperature control!

The ultimate in smoker surveillance plus our entirely wireless draft-control fan.

Precision temperature control

The Combustion Engine™ is a wireless blower that teams up with our Giant Grill Gauge to maintain rock-steady temps for 24+ hours on a single charge. The Combustion Engine receives grill temperatures directly from the gauge (or a Predictive Thermometer) and adjusts its variable-speed fan to hold it right in the sweet spot  - locking in a perfect smoking temp for long periods.

Watch your meat from anywhere

The Giant Grill Gauge connects directly to your Combustion Engine and any Predictive Thermometer, and streams temperature data to MeatNet™ Cloud directly with its onboard WiFi! Compatible with most grills and smokers.

Set contains:

  • Giant Grill Gauge with huge display, built-in WiFi, 1000ºF temperature limit
  • Combustion Engine – the only wireless, rechargeable blower on the market

When ordering:

Select Celsius or Fahrenheit markings for the manual control knob on the Combustion Engine

Select Heat Shield or Heat Deflector depending on your style of smoker/grill (more about that in the FAQ below)

Possibly necessary extra:

The Combustion Engine fits standard grills, but you may need an Optional Mounting Kit depending on your cooker (see FAQ)

Bundle ships separately - estimated delivery dates for each tool are listed in checkout (and on your order receipt).

Orders ship first come first served, preorder quantities are limited.

FAQ

  • 10mm Heat Shield
  • Combustion Engine
  • Standard snout and mounting hardware

Shipping

All orders are shipped in the order received.

It takes 1-3 business days to process orders and get them on their way. At that point, you'll get a shipping confirmation email. Shipped!

In periods of very high demand, products may be temporarily back ordered while we are waiting for inventory to arrive.

In that case, the estimated ship date will be listed in checkout (for example “ESD: Aug 21, 2023”) - that’s when your order is expected to arrive at our US warehouse for processing.

When it arrives depends on the shipping method, location and (for international orders) customs inspections and other random events.

Domestic shipping

Prices and shipping options are listed in checkout. (Please don't use the fast delivery options for products that are out of stock or for preorders. It won't get there faster.)

Worldwide shipping

No surprises! We ship to most countries Delivered Duties Paid (DDP). That means everything-taxes, duties, import fees, and shipping fees-are calculated and pre-paid at check-out.

How difficult is it to install the Combustion Engine?

It depends on the grill or smoker in question. Some grills are super easy and require no tools, others might require you to drill a hole at an appropriate location for the fan exhaust.

So, long story short, it’s as difficult (or easy, depending) as installing pretty much any third-party blower.

Before we ship, we will have installation guides available for the most popular grills.

How powerful is the fan?

The fan is sized to supply up to 15CFM (cubic feet/min), which is honestly overkill for most grills and smokers. In most cases, the engine will reduce the fan’s output automatically.

When set to max temperature, the fan will output it's full power to stoke the fire as hot as possible.

How long does it take to recharge?

Recharging time depends on the power supply and USB cable you use. It’s a big battery.

  • 24hrs with 5V USB 2.0
  • 4 hrs with USB type-C
  • 1 hour with USB type-C rated for power delivery (PD)

*Power supply not included.

Can it run on power too?

It sure can. You can run it from the USB port, and if using USB type C power supply, it can run and charge at the same time.

Do I need the Giant Grill Gauge to use the Combustion Engine?

You’ll need either the Giant Grill Gauge OR a Predictive Thermometer measuring the grill/chamber temp. That input tells the Combustion Engine how much to blow to keep the temp steady. You can set the target temp using the dial, the gauge, or the Combustion app.

Connecting either tool to the Combustion app provides another level of features - temp tracking, graphing, temp alerts, and more goodness.

Does the Combustion Engine have a "sear" mode?

Yessssss. Fire it up! Turn the dial to “max” to get those coals pumping. That’s awfully handy even when you’re not smoking.

Will the Giant Grill Gauge fit my grill?

The Giant Grill Gauge is compatible with most grills and smokers, including popular brands like Big Green Egg, Traeger, Weber, and more.

If in doubt, read on:

  • You'll need a clear, circular area of 4.5 inches in diameter for the display
  • You'll need a center pass-through hole for the sensor tube

Attachment Methods:

  • Standard: 1/4-20 threaded tube with wing-nut (preferred)
  • Alternative: M4-threaded sensor tube with matching wingnut

How easy is it to set up the Giant Grill Gauge?

Setup is straightforward. Attach the mount to your grill where your old gauge was, then secure it with the wingnut.

The Giant Grill Gauge display snaps onto the mount magnetically. Once attached, all you have to do is turn it on.

Connect it to your Wi-Fi network easily using the Combustion app.

Does the Giant Grill Gauge work as part of the mesh network? Specifically, will it help get the signal from my CPT out of the grill box better?

Yes! It’s part of the Bluetooth mesh network (Meatnet™) and also adds WiFi to your toolset.

The Giant Grill Gauge connects to Meatnet and communicates with other Combustion tools, but also connects directly to your Wi-Fi network. This gives you the ability to remotely check temps using the app – from far beyond Bluetooth range.

From the CPT’s point of view, it’s creating a direct line-of-sight Bluetooth connection inside the grill!

The signal coming from the CPT doesn’t have to penetrate the box, it has a backdoor. And then the Gauge passes that on to whatever else you’ve got - Boosters, Displays, Apps. And so forth.

That also means the Gauge is not dependent on WiFi - you can still use it as a repeater with traditional Meatnet, even if the internet goes down.

On top of this, the Gauge is contributing its own data (grill temp) to the pool, which creates all kinds of interesting and useful analytical possibilities. Mathematical!

Will the Giant Grill Gauge have high/low temp alarms? Like for flame-outs or flare-ups, or whatever?

Yes! Custom alarms are a highly-requested feature.

That's coming to the Combustion App very soon and will work natively with the Gauge and Predictive Thermometer.

Cooks will be able to set an alarm and will be alerted through the app as well as by the Gauge itself.
