Accuracy so sharp

It’ll make your old bi-metal dial cry rust-colored tears. The platinum RTD sensor measures temperatures up to 1000 °F with 10X the accuracy of analog gauges. Its 5 second response time is blazing fast, its accuracy rock solid. Your grill's old analog gauge just got smoked.

Giant grill gauge under a spotlight
  • Two temperatures tell the full story

With the Giant Grill Gauge you can measure the overall cooking temperature, while the Predictive Thermometer tracks the cooler air next the surface of your food. Together, they give you Total Temperature Awareness™ of how heat really flows in and around your food.

  • WiFi for unlimited range

The Giant Grill Gauge doesn't just measure — it connects. It adds WiFi capability for itself and up to 4 Predictive Thermometers, extending their range to anywhere with an internet connection. Your grill's new WiFi superpowers let you monitor your cook from the Kwik-E-Mart (or the basement, or Bora Bora).

  • One display, two mounting options

Choose the ideal mounts for your grills and smokers. The Giant Grill Gauge's display attaches magnetically to its mount for easy switching or removal. One versatile tool, ready for all your barbecue adventures.

  • Choose your protection

The right mount depends on how your Giant Grill Gauge will be attached to your grill or smoker. On top of the lid where it's hottest, or on the cooler front face?

  • Heat Shield

10mm of aerogel in a stainless steel and silicone housing protects against your hottest cooks. Best for top-mounting where hot air collects underneath the shield.

  • Heat Deflector

2mm of aerogel in a lower profile housing for cooler lid-temps. Best for side-mounting where hot air flows up and away from behind the deflector.

  • Fridge-friendly kitchen companion

It's also your new favorite fridge magnet: an easy-to-read from across the kitchen display for year-round cooking with your Predictive Thermometer. What a convenient place to show off the Giant Grill Gauge when it’s not barbecue season. (Who are we kidding, it's always barbecue season.)

Frequently Asked Questions

What's included?

Includes:

• Giant Grill Gauge display

• Heat Shield or Heat Deflector mount

• Sensor tube (with M4 threading)

• 1/4-20 threaded mounting tube with washer and wingnut

• M4 wing nut and washer

• 2 CR2450 batteries (85 °C rated)

How easy it to set up the Giant Grill Gauge?

Setup is straightforward. Attach the mount to your grill where your old gauge was, then secure it with the wingnut.

The Giant Grill Gauge display snaps onto the mount magnetically. Once attached, all you have to do is turn it on.

Connect it to your Wi-Fi network easily using the Combustion app.

Will the Giant Grill Gauge fit my grill?

The Giant Grill Gauge is compatible with most grills and smokers, including popular brands like Big Green Egg, Traeger, Weber, and more.

If in doubt, read on:
• You'll need a clear, circular area of 4.5 inches in diameter where the display can sit
• You'll need a center pass-through hole for the sensor tube

Attachment Methods:
• Standard: 1/4-20 threaded tube with wing-nut (preferred)
• Alternative: M4-threaded sensor tube with matching wingnut

In some cases, mounting the Giant Grill Gauge may require a hole to be drilled, or an adjustment to be made to an existing hole.

We absolutely do not recommend drilling a hole (or adjusting the size of the hole) on a ceramic grill.

Is there any reason NOT to get the thicker Heat Shield except for the higher price?

This question has come up a lot, so here goes:

No.

The Heat Shield variant is universal (for anything that can hold a Giant Grill Gauge).

Sometimes it’s overkill. (Some people like that.)

Use Heat Shield:

  • With a Weber Kettle
  • Or any kettle-style grill
  • For a top-mount
  • If you’re really into pushing things hotter (pizza cooks, this is you!).
  • When in doubt

That said, the Deflector will work with many (most?) grills and smokers. It’s still very robust (up to 600ºF lid temps).

Use Heat Deflector for:

  • Replacing front-mounted gauges
  • Insulated grills and smokers
  • Gas grills
  • Most kamado-style grills
  • Improved aerodynamics

We are compiling a master list with more specific recommendations, so if you have a specific grill in mind, please write in hello@combustion.inc.

If we already have a recommendation, we’ll tell you. Either way, we’ll add it to the list.

(P.S. Please help us out by putting GGG as part of the subject line of that email.)

Can I make changes to my order?

Yes - you can make changes or cancel your order at any time before it ships – at no cost.

A lot of people are unsure about the choice of mount - that’s understandable.

There are a lot of different grills out there! We’re mapping it out as requests come in (don’t be shy- email us with your particulars, and of course photos are appreciated).

Don’t sweat it, you’ll have an opportunity to revise your choice before shipping.

For now, we recommend you choose Heat Shield if you’re unsure.

There will be more details forthcoming about what mount is ideal for particular grills.

And we will likely produce some affordable adapter kits to manage nonstandard mounts. Stay tuned!

Does it work as part of the mesh network? Specifically, will it help get the signal from my CPT out of the grill box better?

Yes! It’s part of the Bluetooth mesh network (Meatnet™) and also adds WiFi to your toolset.

The Giant Grill Gauge connects to Meatnet and communicates with other Combustion tools, but also connects directly to your Wi-Fi network. This gives you the ability to remotely check temps using the app – from far beyond Bluetooth range.

From the CPT’s point of view, it’s creating a direct line-of-sight Bluetooth connection inside the grill!

The signal coming from the CPT doesn’t have to penetrate the box, it has a backdoor. And then the Gauge passes that on to whatever else you’ve got - Boosters, Displays, Apps. And so forth.

That also means the Gauge is not dependent on WiFi - you can still use it as a repeater with traditional Meatnet, even if the internet goes down.

On top of this, the Gauge is contributing its own data (grill temp) to the pool, which creates all kinds of interesting and useful analytical possibilities. Mathematical!

Can it handle multiple Predictive Thermometers?

The Giant Grill Gauge can manage up to 4 Predictive Thermometers simultaneously.

It connects to them via Bluetooth and then extends their range using its WiFi connection.

This allows you to view data from all connected thermometers from anywhere with an internet connection.

Will it have high/low temp alarms? Like for flame-outs or flare-ups, or whatever?

Yes! Custom alarms are a highly-requested feature.

That's coming to the Combustion App very soon (for CPTs) and will also work natively with the Gauge.

Cooks will be able to set an alarm and will be alerted through the app as well as by the Gauge itself.

Is it weather-resistant?

Yup, it's fully weather resistant (IP66).

We've also put a bunch of UV protection into the silicone housing and coating on the LCD display. But sunlight is brutal.

Highly recommended you just pop it off the magnetic mount and store it on your refrigerator when it's not in use. It will stay looking brand-new for a lot longer.

What’s the timeline on the Giant Grill Gauge? When can we start grilling with it?!

Early access units will go to our auction winners in December 2024; their input is crucial while we fine tune the firmware and app features.

Production units will ship strictly in the order received, first come, first served, starting in late January 2025.

Your order will include an estimated ship date based on when you ordered. (This shows during checkout and also appears on your order confirmation email.)

Will there be a blower for temperature control in the future?

That's a popular question! We're always cooking up new ideas.

Why isn't the Giant Grill Gauge available in black?

Heat management. Black absorbs more heat, while lighter colors stay cooler. Think of it like wearing a t-shirt on a hot, sunny day.

Our Combustion yellow helps keep the gauge from overheating in direct sunlight, ensuring reliable performance.

Why aren't the batteries rechargeable?

The Giant Grill Gauge is designed for extreme outdoor conditions.

Rechargeable lithium polymer batteries can be compromised at temperatures above 149°F (65°C), which the Gauge may exceed on very hot, sunny days.

Because of that we use high-capacity coin cell batteries that can withstand extreme temperatures while providing enough power for most customers to change batteries only once every year or two. This ensures reliability in all grilling conditions without sacrificing performance or convenience.
